Description of the Program:

The meaning of anatomy derived from both the Latin and the Greek means "dissection and cutting." It is a descriptive science that studies the structure of living things, their shape, layout, topography, location, and relationship to each other and to the organs that compose them. The term refers to both the structure itself of living organisms, as the branch of biology that studies the structures, which, in the case of human anatomy becomes a so-called basic science or "preclinical" of medicine.

Also, it studies the molecular structure and cellular chemistry of organic tissues in different regions of the body, making it easier for the therapist to understand and investigate aspects dealing with pathology, whose affects can be applied with more responsibility within therapies so that it benefits each of the individuals in need of treatment.

The purpose of the Anatomy and Physiology course of the holistic program is to give basic knowledge on the concept that the body is a whole and that their systems are interdependent, which concludes that health is the result of good management of physical, mental and emotional aspects of the human being.

This course has been designed into 2 parts. First and second quarters and each one has 14 chapters and will be finish in two quarters equals one semester.

Students must earn a 75% or better in the Anatomy and Physiology course to be eligible to continue other holistic therapies modules.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion, students will be able to:

  • Recognize that anatomy and physiology are a key component of human biology.
  • Identify that the cell is the main morphological and functional unit in the study of the human body.
  • Describe how knowledge of human anatomy and physiology is essential in order to use or recommend suitable natural treatments.
  • Summarize the components of human anatomy and physiology, starting at the cellular level, and moving to tissues, organs, and systems.
  • Identify that the cell is the main morphological and functional unit in the study of the human body.
  • Explain how the human body's immune system functions through a network of vessels and lymph nodes that support cell interaction and defend against viruses and bacteria.
  • Carry out in-class experiments with practical natural methods that help balance the body pH (potential of hydrogen).
  • Identify eating habits that help maintain a balance between acidity and alkalinity.
  • Describe the interdependent systems that absorb nutrients and excrete toxins in the human body.

Methods of Evaluation: Student grades will be based on the following evaluation methods:

“Nature’s living energy”—better known as essential oils— are the missing link in modern healthcare. The course will explore how oils affect mind, body, and the soul/emotions. A review of aroma and olfactory science, oil chemistry basics, and the modern and ancient (British, French, German, ancient Egyptian and biblical) models for healing through smell, topical application and ingestion will be studied.
